Roman Sex Coin

Roman Sex Coin

A bronze coin in exchange for Roman sex.
In A New York Times article posted January 5th, 2012, reports that a bronze coin containing a pornographic image had been found in the mud near the Putney Bridge over the Thames river in London, England. During the 1st century A.D. (date of the coin) London was a Roman outpost. Historians say coins depicting different sex acts were exchanged in brothels. In other words, you would receive the same sex act depicted on the coin. This is where the term, “a pound of flesh” originated.
It has been reported that similar items have been found in Troy.
The coin is now at The Museum of London.
